In an attempt to resurrect our team news I will try to get debate results posted.

At Marquette all five entries reached elimination rounds a earned legs to state.

In PF, Yi Yi & Michelle Yang were quarter-finalists and Lingran Kong & Valerie Shen were semi-finalists.

In LD, Arjun Seshadri was a quarter-finalist, Pratyusha Kalluri a semi-finalist, and Brendan Caldwell, who went without a loss, was the Champion.

At the Mid-America Cup, out of a field of 102 LDers from more than a dozen and a half states, Brendan Caldwell reached the double-octo finals, losing on a 2-1 decision.  Breaking at a TOC-bid tournament is a rare event, with less than five Wisconsin LDers accoplishing the feat in the past five years.

The Spartans also claimed six individual championships en route to their victory.

For Juniors and Seniors interested in applying to a college that has a forensics team, the National Forensics League has developed a “Colleges and Universities of Excellence Program” that seeks to help successful high school forensics students be rewarded competitive offers of admissions to prestigious universities.

Upon announcing the program, the National Forensics League said, “Having such well-rounded and empirically successful students enables the NFL to connect its members with interested schools and even scholarship dollars.”

You can read more about it at the National Forensics League website linked here.

Despite missing the Bradley Tournament in December, the forensics team achieved a great deal of success this weekend at the Appleton East tournament.  The team earned a first place sweepstakes finish over Brookfield East 337 to 282.

Students, Coaches, Parents, and Alumni are excited to embark on the first competition of the season tonight.  Later tonight buses leave for Appleton East and the tournament will begin Saturday morning.  For some fortunate students, they do not have to wait until Saturday for their first competition of the year.  Students participating in Student Congress will begin their season tonight.  Regardless of when the season starts, students have been busy preparing all week and they have done a great job improving.

We’ll report back with results as soon as we return from Appleton.  Wish us luck!
