The stage is not merely the meeting place of all the arts, but is also the return of art to life.
- Oscar Wilde
The Memorial Theater Company is one of the three major activities governed by DDAF. The James Madison Memorial Theater Company produces three shows a year - a fall play, a winter musical, and a spring play. Memorial productions give students a chance to develop not just their acting talents on stage, but also to develop the technical and artistic talents necessary to produce live theater.
Actors for MTC productions are chosen through a competitive audition process. Auditions for the fall play are held in the spring of the previous academic year, auditions for the musical are held in the fall of the current academic year, and auditions for the spring show are held during the winter. Rehearsals begin shortly after auditions.
Before a production can ever begin, students must design and construct the props, costumes, and scenery. This is the work of the Stage Crew. Stage Crew is open to anyone interested in producing sets. Actors not receiving a role for the current play, especially freshmen and sophomores, are encouraged to join stage crew. If you’re interested in painting walls or painting faces, Stage Crew is for you! During production time, Stage Crew meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm-8pm. Production meetings are Wednesday Mornings at 7:45am.
